What happened
In McGinnis v. Orange County, Jermaine McGinnis filed a complaint while representing himself and without paying the filing fee. The court had previously directed the Orange County Attorney to identify Correction Officer D. Powel and provide service addresses for D. Powel and Correction Officer M. Carter.
The Orange County Attorney identified D. Powel as D. Powles and provided service addresses for Correction Officer Michael Carter and D. Powles. The court directed the Clerk to prepare service forms, issue summonses, and send the necessary papers to the U.S. Marshals Service for service on Carter and Powles.
Judge Briccetti also directed the Clerk to replace Correction Officer D. Powel with Correction Officer D. Powles as a defendant and to mail McGinnis a copy of the order.

Background
Jermaine McGinnis filed this action while proceeding without a lawyer and without paying the filing fee. In an earlier order, the court directed the Orange County Attorney to identify a defendant listed as Correction Officer D. Powel and to provide service addresses for that officer and Correction Officer M. Carter.
Defense counsel responded that the officer identified as D. Powel was C.O. D. Powles and provided service addresses for C.O. Michael Carter and D. Powles at Orange County Correctional Facility.
Order
The court directed the Clerk to complete U.S. Marshals Service Process Receipt and Return forms for Michael Carter and D. Powles, using the provided facility address. The Clerk was also directed to issue summonses and give the U.S. Marshals Service the paperwork needed to serve those defendants.
The court further directed the Clerk to substitute C.O. D. Powles for defendant Correction Officer D. Powel. The order also directed Chambers to mail McGinnis a copy at the address listed on the docket.

Judge Vincent L. Briccetti entered an order concerning identification and service of defendants. The opinion does not decide the merits of McGinnis’s claims.
